Under 14 Craven Minor League
Sunday the 9th of October 2011. Sandy Lane, Lydiate.AFC Liverpool 4 v Birkdale Blacks 0
A much improved Birkdale Blacks arrived at Sandy Lane this week determined to overturn the 6-1 defeat they suffered at the hands of AFC earlier in the season. This clearly took the AFC lads by surprise as it took the whole of the first half of the game for AFC to show anything like the effort, skill and passion that they had displayed in their previous games.
The first half didn’t go past without the odd player within the team displaying their usual attributes, Liam Werth, James Tyrer and Tom Keller all showed determination and effort to shake AFC out of their poor start.
The second half saw one or two changes and a change in formation, with Declan Williams and Joshua Wright introduced. The substitutions paid off early in the second half with a goal. A superb through ball from Ross Bailey was latched onto by Declan Williams who saw his shot saved by the Birkdale keeper, however the keeper could only parry the shot and Joshua Wright was on hand to score a classic centre forwards goal.
Declan’s name was soon on the score sheet, when he finished another good AFC move with a smart finish. The two early goals seemed to knock the stuffing out of Birkdale and third and fourth goals came fairly quickly. The third goal was again scored by Williams after some superb wing play from Tom Keller. The fourth was finished by ‘Wrighty’ after he latched onto a goal bound attempt from Declan Williams.
The result certainly didn’t flatter AFC and the 4 goal cushion allowed the players to relax and saw some fantastic pieces of skill, the first from Patrick Blair on his own half way line and another from Josh Wilkinson who produced a ‘back heel stepover’ which completely fooled his opposition.
Throughout the game AFC’s defence never looked in danger and they should be all proud of the clean sheet!
