Match report AFC Liverpool (11) - Formby FC (1)

Sunday 29/01/2012 (OK 14:00hrs)

Sandy Lane, Lydiate.

AFC Liverpool (11) - Formby FC (1)

The AFC under fourteens produced an entertaining and bright display of football against Formby FC in cold and heavy conditions.

The lads demonstrated their ability to play controlled passing football and use every area of the pitch and created space to play and then exploit throughout the game. Formby started off strongly with fast and hard-working forwards looking to put the AFC defence under pressure but the game soon settled and AFC missed a couple of clear cut chances during the opening minutes which signalled what was going to be the pattern for the rest of the game.

Excellent distribution from Goalkeeper Jake Young resulted in some exceptional passing play down both wings accompanied by some strong running from deep positions by the midfielders helped them evade the high line and offside traps the Formby defence had planned.

Both Dave White and Matty Davies accepted the plaudits by grabbing three goals each thanks to the excellent service and opportunities created from the rest of the lads and goals for Ross Bailey (1), Josh Wilkinson (1), Declan Williams (2) and Joshua Wright (1) rounded off a good afternoons work from the lads.

AFC Liverpool vs. Town Green (under 14)
Semi Final of the Allen Langfeld Cup
Sandy Lane, Lydiate.

AFC Liverpool under 14’s welcomed Town Green to their home ground in Lydiate for the Semi Final of the Allen Langfeld Cup, in a game that brought together two very good sides and looked like it would produce a entertaining encounter.

The teams fought hard throughout the first half with AFC Liverpool dominating most of the play as they pinned Town Green back into their own half for long periods. Town Green defended stoutly and looked to hit AFC on the break on a number of occasions’ and contested every ball over the entire pitch.
Early on AFC looked a little ring rusty at times as result of having numerous weeks without a game and Jake Young was called upon to produce a great save diving full length to his left to turn a well hit shot around the post, this seemed to be the spare AFC needed to finally start finding their rhythm and passing range.
Ryan Patterson and Danny Dooley produced a good attacking partnership on the right hand side and coursed numerous problems for the Town Green defence and also defended strongly when called upon. AFC pressurised the Town Green goal mouth and hit the wood work before Josh Wright broke the deadlock with a well taken chance after some great skill from Tom Kelleher produce the opening for Josh to finish.
Patrick Blair along with Tom Kelleher controlled the middle of the park with great vision and tackling and produced some excellent incisive passing for James Tyrer and Josh Wilkinson to power into good attacking areas.

Half Time:  AFC Liverpool (1) vs. (0) Town Green (Joshua Wright)

The restart saw AFC get back to basics by producing some simple fast paced “pass and move” football that cut through the Town Green team and the game turned into a one way procession of offensive AFC play. Josh Wilkinson, James Tyrer and Declan Williams brought applause from the crowd for their interlinking play on the left hand side that also produced goals for both Declan and Josh. Declan went on to complete his hat trick and a good all round display with a further two goals from well hit shots from inside the penalty box.
Liam Worth who had a great game in the centre of the defence headed home with a powerful header from a wonderfully hit curling corner from Tom Kelleher who by this time was producing a display of strong running and controlled aggression in the centre of midfield and was well supported by Patrick Blair.
Dave White and Marcus McGinn both capped off a couple of fine second half performances with fine goals from the edge of the box after some patient play from Matty Davies and Declan Williams respectively. Captain Ross Bailey had a very vocal performance and he lead well from centre half position dominating the Town Green attackers, his partnership with Liam Worth is as strong as any in the League. Joe Mitchell had a good second half with some fine interceptions and controlled passing.
The game lived up to the promise it had offered when the Cup draw was made and the AFC lads turned in a superb performance and every player gave it their all throughout. Congratulations to the team for their well deserved win and a place in the Cup Final.

Cup Semi Final 15/01/2012

Hi all, 5 things for tomorrow.
(1) We need to collect the last TWO weeks subs tomorrow (minimum) as we didn’t collect enough to cover the training pitch on Thursday and we’ll also have additional Match fees on Sunday for Assistant Referees’ (Lineman) so will everyone please ensure they bring their child’s subs up to date BEFORE tomorrows game please. See Paul Nield BEFORE tomorrow’s game if you’re not sure where you’re up to with subs.
(2) can all players be at Sandy Lane for 1:15pm at the latest in full matching kit and can all parents give a hand with nets and the Respect sideline tape before and AFTER the game as well please.
(3) Can all parents, family and friends please show full respect to all Match officials and League officials but mostly the players and particularly our own players during the game. The encouragement they get is great but they get lost with too much information in the heat of the match.
(4) There could be League and other “officials” at the game and we don’t want to damage our good reputation with any misunderstanding or over enthusiasm so please be aware of who you’re standing near and what you’re saying.
(5) Big Game tomorrow so early to bed and a good breakfast in the morning and we should play our way into the Final.
Thanks Daniel afc Liverpool.
