UNDER 14 CRAVEN MINOR LEAGUE

Sunday the 27th of November 2011(2pm).  Smithy Green, Formby.

Formby JSC (u14) vs AFC Liverpool (u14)

The under 14’s journeyed to play Formby JSC in the league this Sunday to try and extend their current unbeaten run of 11 games.

AFC started the game with a very determined attitude and played some fast flowing football that was a credit to their ability and application. Ryan Patterson produced a fine display at right back and he helped produce most of the attacking play in the first 20 minutes backed by his very good all-round display. James Tyrer raided down the left flank on numerous occasions from left back and was supported by Josh Wilkinson in left midfield. During one of those left sided attacks James was brought down in the penalty area which resulted in the referee pointing to the spot. Danny Dooley stepped up and took the spot kick only to see it well saved by the Formby keeper, however Danny was aware enough to turn the ball into the net during the resulting penalty box melee. Sustained pressure from the AFC attackers in harrying the Formby defence caused one of the opposition to mishit a clearance and see it loop over the stranded keeper taking the score to 0-2. Dec Williams converted another penalty and Matty Davies latched on to a good through ball to score before half time and give AFC a good lead going into half time.

Half time – Formby JSC 0 vs. AFC Liverpool 4

The AFC dominance continued into the second half after a slow first five minutes. Good midfield displays from Patrick Blair, Danny Dooley and Dec Williams helped create some bright attacking football that brought applause from the crowd at times. Both Luke Banks and Josh Wright took full advantage of some of the offensive play and scored a goal apiece and Dec Williams rounded off a good personal display by scoring his second. The score line could have been much more if it wasn’t for a fine display by the Formby keeper who made several very good saves and one in particular from a well hit long range curling effort from Patrick Blair which the keeper pushed away one handed.

Overall a good robust performance which fully deserved three points and gave enough encouragement going into the Cup Semi next week to think a spot in the Final is achievable.

Full time (Formby JSC 0 vs. AFC Liverpool 7)

A message of thanks from Formby FC

Hi,
I'm not sure who I should be sending this email to but we would like to send a thank you message to referee Steve Hinds who refereed Formby under 14's v AFC Liverpool under 14's today 20th November. There was a serious injury to one of our players and he was excellent in the way in which he handled the situation. I know it isn't very often we praise referees from the touchline but Mr Hinds deserves massive credit for his handling of a very serious situation. We would be very grateful if you can forward our thanks to him. Also the AFC Liverpool coaches and indeed fans were extremely understanding and very helpful in calming our player down when he was badly injured. So a massive thank you to them. One more thing, I believe that one of AFC Liverpool's players thought that it was his fault but there was nobody to be blamed, he just got his studs stuck as he turned so it would be nice if we can get a message to their manager to let him know that there boy was definitely not to blame for the injury.
Many Thanks
Graham Sproston (Formby FC under 14's)

UNDER 14 CRAVEN MINOR LEAGUE

Sunday the 20th of November 2011(2pm).  Altcar Road, Formby.

Formby vs. AFC Liverpool (Abandoned)

The under 14’s had a league game this weekend and travelled to Altcar Road to face Formby FC U14 and got underway with a much changed starting eleven.

The first half began with AFC pressing the Formby back four which eventually saw them waste numerous early chances. Tom Kelleher made several good challengers and passes to help take control of what was becoming a very scrappy game in midfield and the central defensive pair of Ross Bailey and Dave White dealt well with some long and high Formby clearances. The heavy conditions made passing difficult and the AFC lads struggled to read the pitch and over hit a number of a passes but they did get the forward pair of Luke Banks and Josh Wright beyond the defence only for them to be denied by the on rushing Formby keeper.

What seemed initially to be an innocuous knee twist for a Formby player whilst he ran for the ball brought the game to a halt for over 40 minutes as first aid was administrated and medical assistance called for what looked like a very unfortunate and unlucky injury.

After the pitch was cleared and the ambulance had departed the referee called both sides into the centre circle and officially abandoned the game with the full backing of both teams.

We wish the player a full and speedy recovery and would like to thank all those who helped administrated first aid and make him as comfortable as possible, particularly Paul Nield our under 14’s coach.

UNDER 14 CRAVEN MINOR LEAGUE

Sunday the 13th of November 2011(2pm).  Sandy Lane, Lydiate.

AFC Liverpool 2 v Southport Trinity 2

The under 14’s entertained Southport Trinity at Sandy Lane this weekend and both teams helped produce a match full of incident, passion and entertainment.

The first half saw AFC press and attack the Trinity goal on numerous occasions in the first 20 minutes but ultimately saw them squander several good chances. Matty Davies broke the deadlock with a well taken goal after the ball had been parried by the Trinity keeper during a goal mouth scramble.  Trinity stepped up their intensity as a result of growing AFC domination and they tried to out muscle the AFC lads and disrupt possession at every opportunity and turn the game into a tussle. This resulted in them grabbing two goals before half time; the first from a breakaway down their left wing and the second a speculative long range effort that looped over the unfortunate AFC keeper.

Half time - AFC Liverpool 1 v Southport Trinity 2

The second half saw complete AFC domination, the lads proceeded to play their normal passing football and were not drawn into the mêlée that had occurred in the first half. During a sustained period of pressure the referee refused to give what clearly looked like a penalty on Declan Williams which would have been justice for his and the teams effects. The referee then reduced AFC to ten men after giving a straight red card for the use of foul and abusive language, this didn’t change the flow of play and the Trinity goal came under continued pressure. Joe Mitchell sent a superb long diagonal cross from the right wing which Joshua Wright met with a volley to bring the scores level.

The whole team stepped up to the mark and produced a strong and passionate performance in the second half which fully deserved three points. Unfortunately this was a case of two points dropped as the AFC lads wasted several good chances during both halves that would have and should have killed the game for opposition.

Full time (AFC Liverpool 2 v Southport Trinity 2)
