UNDER 14 CRAVEN MINOR LEAGUE
Sunday the 16th of October 2011(2pm). Sandy Lane, Lydiate.
AFC Liverpool 3 v Town Green 1
Town Green visited the under 14’s home ground Sandy Lane this weekend and gave a very determined performance. The game was full of energy, skill and passion and the enthusiasm showed by the AFC lads was enough to overcome the opposition and take all three points.
The first half display was highlighted by some very good attacking play typified by Luke Banks and Marcus McGinn who kept the Town Green defence busy and constantly under pressure. Tom Keller played a tremendous defence splitting through ball that drew out the Town Green keeper, who brought down Luke Banks in the penalty box as he knocked the ball past him; the resulting penalty was converted by Danny Dooley. The second goal came from Josh Wilkinson who hit a speculative long range effort from the left hand side which dropped over the head of the keeper.
Half time 2-0
The second half saw Declan Williams and Matty Davies combine to provide Joshua Wright a chance to lob the Keeper and get his name on the score sheet. Dave White and Declan Williams both came close to adding to the score line before Town Green started to come more into play after a little complacency had crept into Liverpool’s play. The opponents scored after intercepting an under hit back pass. The defence showed a great deal of strength and determination led by Liam Worth and Patrick Blair who both made some fine challenges and played some first class football from the back. Liverpool responded to the Town Greens threat and increased their energy and controlled the last twenty minutes of the game and could have scored again.
A very controlled display from the AFC lads who showed some great one touch football at times and continue to grow in confidence and stature with every game.
Full time 3-1
