· Craven Minor JFL Under 14
· AFC Liverpool 0 - 2 Birkdale United
· Sandy Lane, Lydiate L31 4DW
A very unfortunate first game loss for AFC to last year’s league winners Birkdale United during yesterday evenings monsoon like weather. The under 14 AFC players dominated the majority of the game and played some excellent football from front to back with every player looking very comfortable on the ball in every part of the pitch given the atrocious weather conditions and with a little more composure in front of goal the game could have and should have been very much in AFC’s favour.
Birkdale scored via two AFC errors coursed by the conditions leading to a long range effect and another from just inside the penalty box, but Birkdale didn’t have any other attempts on goal of any merit throughout the rest of the match. Ross Bailey was very unfortunate not to score for AFC after latching onto a fine pass from Ryan Patterson in the first half and Josh Wilkinson saw a couple of shots flash just wide. Liverpool had some great play down both wings and produced some crosses of real quality that blazed across the face of goal.
Overall a very disappointing result for the under 14 lads given their effort in controlling the vast amount of possession and producing the number chances throughout the game without reaping the rewards they deserved.
